Orthodontic Braces in Lagos

They also correct bites that do not meet properly, making teeth easier to clean and less likely to decay.

What problems do braces fix?

Braces treat crowding, where teeth overlap or twist because the jaw has no room for all of them, and gaps between teeth, whether natural or left after a tooth was lost. They also bring back front teeth that stick out and chip easily.
They correct bites too. An overbite or underbite means upper and lower teeth meet wrongly, which wears enamel down over years, and a crossbite, where upper teeth bite inside the lower ones, can cause uneven wear and jaw pain. Straight teeth are also easier to clean, because crooked ones trap plaque where a brush cannot reach.

Braces are not always the answer. If a tooth is worn, chipped, or stained rather than out of position, veneers or composite bonding will get you there faster and for less.

Which type of braces is right for you?

We fit four systems. They reach the same result but differ in visibility, comfort, and cost.

• Metal braces. The strongest option, and the one that handles severe crowding and complex bites. They are visible, but modern brackets are much smaller than people expect.
• Ceramic braces. Tooth coloured brackets that blend into the tooth. Popular with adults, though they are more brittle than metal and need care with hard food.
• Damon braces. A sliding clip holds the wire instead of elastic ties, so teeth move under lighter force and you may need fewer visits.
• Lingual braces. Fitted behind the teeth, so nobody sees them. Each bracket is custom-made, which is why few Lagos clinics fit them.

How much do braces cost in Lagos?

Braces at Dr. Reach cost ₦950,000 to ₦2,500,000. Metal sits at the lower end and lingual at the upper end. You get an exact figure in writing at your first appointment, and it does not change. Your price covers X-rays, fitting, every adjustment, removal, and your first set of retainers.

Some patients need work before braces go on, and this is quoted separately. Most need a scaling and polishing first, because brackets will not bond to teeth covered in tartar. Another common separate cost is gum disease, since gums must be healthy before teeth are moved. If your jaw has no room for the teeth you have, an extraction may be needed. A simple extraction costs ₦45,000 to ₦70,000 and a surgical one ₦200,000 to ₦300,000.

How does braces treatment work?

Treatment runs in five stages over 12 to 24 months.

1. Consultation. We examine your teeth, bite, and gums and take X-rays and a scan or impressions. You leave with a written quote and a timeline. [45 to 60] minutes, [₦10,000].
2. Preparation. Most patients have a scaling and polishing first. Some need an extraction or gum treatment before teeth can be moved.
3. Fitting. Usually 1 to 2 weeks later, taking 60 to 90 minutes. Expect three to five days of tenderness afterwards.
4. Adjustments. Every 4 to 8 weeks, 20 to 30 minutes. We change or tighten the archwire, and fit elastics in some cases.
5. Removal and retainers. Braces come off, and your first retainers go in the same day. Teeth drift back without them, so you wear them at night long term.
